The job

Finding and fixing a leaking boiler header.

We investigated a leaking horizontal boiler flue at the University of Birmingham, then replaced it.

Our report found the cause. The header used V band joints sealed with a silicone that was not suitable for condensing boilers, and it had perished. The old parts could not be reused, because the silicone residue is almost impossible to remove.

We replaced the horizontal section, two Ø250 boiler connections into a Ø400 header of about 4.5 metres, with a push fit twin wall insulated system. Push fit joints give a more secure seal than the old V bands.
